Partnership for Children's Dental Health |
|
The Partnership for Children's Dental Health is a collaboration of more than 15 organizations in Mecklenburg County that have come together to create an oral health program aimed at improving the oral health of underserved children and families in our community. The program focuses on prevention, education and outreach to children in preschools, public schools and in other community agencies serving children. The Partnership for Children's Dental Health also works through a network of dentists and other oral health professionals who volunteer to provide services at reduced fees to children who are underinsured or uninsured.

Tips for Better Teeth |
|
As a parent, you can work with your children to help them understand why good oral care is important—and show them how to do it right. Here are some tips to help you have a healthy smile that will last a lifetime:
- Help your child brush their teeth until about the age of 8
- Brush for at least 2 minutes each time
- Use a soft, small headed brush
- Use an ADA-accepted fluoride toothpaste but be sure your child can spit it out
- Use a "pea" sized amount of toothpaste and be sure to rinse. Remember, use a "dot" instead of a "stripe"
- Toothpaste is not needed for children under the age of 2; run a soft brush over their teeth to clean them
- Do not swallow toothpaste
- Replace your toothbrush when it begins to show wear or every 3 months or if you have been sick with an infection (cold, sinus, throat or other)
- "Baby" teeth are important to care for too! Allow them to fall out naturally unless a dentist recommends otherwise. Baby teeth guide the permanent teeth in the right direction. They also assist in speech development, eating and growing properly

Ask Us |
|
Prevention is the key to good oral hygiene. Factors to help prevent cavities are your diet, proper amounts of fluoride and to brush, floss and see your dentist regularly. Early oral health habits make for a healthy smile. That's why we have an Oral Health Educator who regularly visits preschools in our community.
Our staff will visit your school or daycare center and provide the classroom with lessons in good oral health habits. This is made possible by generous donations PCDH secures each year. In addition, this support also allows CHS to provide children with toothbrushes, toothpaste or other supplies to take home. If you have a question about taking care of your teeth, please click here to Ask Us.
